Knee Brace for Osteoarthritis

We know from our post on ‘Myth Monday’ that braces can be very helpful if you have OA In your knee.

Unloader knee braces are designed to unload the pressure from the affected area, providing a reduction in pain. They can be an economical and effective treatment for unicompartmental knee osteoarthritis. They can significantly improve quality of life and potentially delay the need for surgery.

Out of all the unloading type knee braces, the Ossur Unloader One® brace has the most published evidence. It has a 3-point leverage system which is able to unload the affected compartment and is recommended for mild to severe unicompartmental osteoarthritis. The brace is easy to put on, lightweight and low profile.

Many orthopaedic consultants are now recommending these braces to patients and we have seen patients who were really struggling with osteoarthritic knee pain who can return to activities wearing a brace such as gardening, golf and painting.

Harbourside Physiotherapy is a recommended brace fitting clinic for Ossur knee braces. To find out more about these braces and to discuss whether a brace may be suitable for you please follow the link to our website or phone the clinic to speak to Lucy.
